Lusaka, Zambia (28th January 2026) Levy Mwanawasa Medical University (LMMU) Acting Vice Chancellor, Professor Sekelani Banda, officiated at the opening of a bookstore at the University’s main campus, marking an important milestone in enhancing academic resources for students and staff. 

The bookstore, operated by Legacy Wide Trade Limited Bookstore, will offer a wide range of reading materials, including academic, social, financial, and general interest literature aimed at supporting teaching, learning, and personal development

Speaking during the official launch, Professor Banda emphasized the importance of creating an academic environment that is well equipped with diverse reading resources. He noted that the establishment of the bookstore will help promote a strong culture of reading among both students and lecturers. 

He further called on the bookstore management to stock all recommended textbooks outlined in the LMMU curricula, ensuring that learners have easy access to essential learning materials. Professor Banda also encouraged students and staff to take advantage of the bookstore to build personal libraries and to cultivate the habit of reading beyond preparations for examination in order to deepen their knowledge and broaden their perspectives.

“The bookstore is the anchor of  shops at LMMU because it provides valuable academic resources that support the core mandate of the University,” he said. 

Meanwhile, Legacy Wide Trade Limited Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Gedion Nkandu, expressed appreciation for the opportunity to operate at LMMU, describing the University as the largest medical university in the region and one that deserves recognition.

“We are delighted to extend our business to LMMU, and we are fully committed to working together to help actualize the University’s goals,” Mr. Nkandu said. He also pledged the company’s support in promoting a strong reading culture among LMMU students. 

As part of the launch, the bookstore announced a 20 percent discount on medical and other related books, and a 10 percent discount on all Christian books, to encourage students and staff to make use of the new facility.
